Etsy fees 2026, explained

Every fee on an Etsy sale, what it’s charged on, and three orders worked through to the cent.

Rates checked 2 Oct 2026

For a US seller in 2026, a typical Etsy sale costs a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% + $0.25 on the order total. On a $25 item with $5 shipping, that’s $3.30, or 11% of the $30 order. If the sale came through Offsite Ads, add 15% (12% for larger shops), which takes the same order to $7.80.

Etsy didn’t change those headline rates in 2026. What did change was the regulatory operating fee in several countries (from June 22, 2026). Below is each fee, what it’s charged on, and worked examples using the same maths as the Etsy fee calculator on this site. Rates come from Etsy’s Fees & Payments Policy (last updated February 13, 2026) and the Etsy Payments Policy, checked 2 Oct 2026.

Every Etsy fee, at a glance

FeeRate (US sellers)Charged on
Listing fee$0.20Each listing, for 4 months or until it sells. Multi-quantity listings renew at $0.20 after each item sells.
Transaction fee6.5%Item price + shipping + gift wrap. In the US, not on sales tax.
Payment processing3% + $0.25The whole order, including shipping and sales tax. Rates vary by country.
Offsite Ads15% or 12%Only orders that came from an Etsy ad on another site. 12% once a shop passes $10,000 in sales over 12 months. Capped at $100 per order.
Currency conversion2.5%Only if you list in a different currency from your bank account.
Regulatory operating fee0% in the USSellers in some countries (UK 0.48%, Canada 0.50%, France 1.14% and others).
Etsy AdsYour budgetOptional pay-per-click ads on Etsy. You set the daily budget.

Etsy also charges some new shops a one-time setup fee during sign-up. The policy doesn’t publish an amount; Etsy shows it when you open the shop, and sellers report different figures (one r/EtsySellers thread is titled “$29 set up fee?”).

Example 1: a $25 item with $5 shipping

A US seller sells one $25 item and charges $5 shipping. No ads, no sales tax collected. The item cost $8 to make and the label cost $4.50.

Listing fee$0.20flat
Transaction fee$1.956.5% of $30
Payment processing$1.153% of $30 + $0.25
Etsy fees$3.3011% of the order
Payout$26.70$30 − $3.30
Profit$14.20$26.70 − $8 − $4.50

This matches a rule of thumb shared in r/EtsySellers: “Take the total x 9.5%, and add 45 cents to that. That’s your fees.” ($30 × 9.5% = $2.85, plus $0.45 = $3.30.) It holds for US sellers without ads or sales tax. Add 15 points to the 9.5% for an Offsite Ads order.

Example 2: the same sale through Offsite Ads

If the buyer clicked an Etsy ad on Google or social media within the attribution window and then bought, Etsy adds 15% of the order: $4.50. Fees jump to $7.80, or 26% of the order, and profit falls from $14.20 to $9.70.

That’s why so many sellers post things like “Well, it finally happened. I got charged for Etsy offsite ads.” (r/EtsySellers). Shops under $10,000 a year can opt out in their settings. Above that the fee drops to 12% and becomes mandatory, so it’s worth pricing in. The price calculator shows the price you’d need if every order came through Offsite Ads.

Example 3: when sales tax is collected

Etsy collects sales tax for most US orders. For US sellers, the transaction fee isn’t charged on the tax, but payment processing is. With 8% tax on the $30 order, processing is 3% of $32.40 + $0.25 = $1.22 instead of $1.15, so fees come to $3.37.

The tax itself isn’t a fee and isn’t your income. A reply in one r/EtsySellers thread put it bluntly: “Sales tax goes to the government. It is not part of your revenue or profit calculation whatsoever.” Keep it out of your profit maths, apart from those few cents of processing.

Shipping is charged fees too

Both the transaction fee and processing apply to what the buyer pays for shipping. One seller found this out when a buyer chose expensive shipping: “I was shocked to see I barely got any money for my item after all the fees were taken.” (r/EtsySellers)

The same applies to free shipping. Take example 1 and offer free shipping at the same $25 price: fees fall to $2.83, but you now pay the $4.50 label yourself, so profit drops to $9.67. Move the $5 into the price instead ($30, free shipping) and fees are $3.30 again, with profit back to $14.20. Fees follow the money the buyer pays, wherever it sits. The free shipping calculator compares all three side by side.

Pricing for the profit you want

You can work backwards from a target. Suppose you want $10 profit on that same item ($8 cost, $4.50 label, $5 charged for shipping). Fees take 9.5% of the order plus $0.45, so the order needs to bring in ($0.45 + $8 + $4.50 + $10) ÷ 0.905 = $25.36. Minus $5 shipping, the item price is $20.36. Round up to $20.99 and you keep $10.57.

Break-even, the price where profit is zero, is $9.31. If you want to stay above $10 even on Offsite Ads orders, the price is $25.40, or $25.99 rounded. The Etsy price calculator does this for your own numbers, including sale discounts.

Outside the US

The 6.5% transaction fee and $0.20 listing fee are the same everywhere (the listing fee is converted to your currency). Payment processing depends on where your bank account is: for example, 4% + £0.20 in the UK and 4% + €0.30 in Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Sellers in some countries also pay the regulatory operating fee, which rose on June 22, 2026 in the UK (to 0.48%), France (1.14%), Italy (0.80%) and Spain (0.88%). UK and EU sellers are charged VAT on Etsy’s fees too, unless they handle it through VAT registration. Choose your country in the “Your Etsy fee rates” panel on any tool here to get those defaults.

Questions sellers ask

What percentage does Etsy take from a sale?

For a US seller without ads, about 9.5% of the order total plus $0.45: around 11% on a $30 order, more on cheap items because of the fixed fees. Offsite Ads orders add 15% or 12%.

Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing both apply to the shipping the buyer pays, as well as the item price.

Does Etsy take fees on sales tax?

For US sellers, the transaction fee doesn’t apply to sales tax, but payment processing does, because it’s charged on the full amount the buyer pays.

Can I avoid Offsite Ads fees?

Shops with under $10,000 in sales over the past 12 months can opt out. Once a shop passes that, Offsite Ads are mandatory at 12%, capped at $100 per order.

Check your own sale. The fee breakdown shows every fee line, your payout and profit for one order. The price calculator works back from the profit you want.

For every listing at once, the Etsy Fee & Profit Calculator spreadsheet (Excel and Google Sheets, pay what you want from $3) adds a listings sheet, an orders log and a monthly dashboard. The free tools stay free either way.
